2023 Loping Coyote Nursery Update:

The annual LCF Plant Sale

is no longer the annual LCF Plant Sale -

I mean, for the 2nd year, we'll be part of the Great Basin Community Food Cooperative's annual Seedling Sale instead of doing our own sale. The Coop's sale date is:

Saturday, May 20th, 2023

240 Court St.

Reno, NV 89501

8am-12pm

Plants are available now for pre-ordering through the Coop's website here: https://gbcfc-seedling-sale.myshopify.com/

Last year I decided to re-conceive the Loping Coyote plant nursery, and the result is that I'm gonna stop doing our own annual plant sale, and instead I'll bring all my plants out for the annual seedling sale at the Great Basin Community Food Co-op. I'm also going to stop buying in the wholesale fruit trees that I used to get, and instead focus on grafting and growing out tree fruit varieties that I'm really fond of or excited about.

There's a few reasons for this change:

1) I can focus more on grafting trees and growing them out

2) My sweetie and I just had our first baby!

3) I'm right now relaunching my culinary mushroom farm project,

Mountain Mushrooms, which is also going to take a lot of time and focus.

I'm going to keep the plant offerings slim as I learn how to merge my sale into the co-op's sale and also because there will be a lag time between not buying wholesale trees and having my own trees ready for sale.

So there isn't a new plant catalog for 2023, and I won't run my own store on the Loping Coyote Farms website, but there are plants posted for on-line ordering through the co-op's website, which is now open. Here's the link to their plant order page: https: //gbcfc-seedling-sale.myshopify.com/

Plus I'll bring plants to sell on-site the day of the co-op's sale.

I know this change won't sound ideal to some people, and if you have any questions or needs, please email me or call me and we'll figure it out.

All blessings!

Nathan

The Loping Coyote Farms plant nursery offers you access to a whole suite of plants that we use ourselves in our edible food forests and ecological farming systems in the Reno area. The species and cultivars that make the cut in the nursery are those that we have found to work best for us in the harsh climatic conditions of our Eastern Sierra/Great Basin area. We offer plant representatives from all the layers of a food forest, from the roots and herbs up to the giant emergent canopy plants. We have attempted to offer plants representing all of the functions that an edible forest ecology entails, from fruit and nut production to nitrogen fixation, insectary and ground cover. Our hope is to help spread interest in perennial-plant-based systems by giving local people the plants they need to get these systems going in their own ground.

The 2021 Plant Catalog from two years ago remains up on the website. The catalog is full of good information, so though it's no longer specifically useful for current ordering, it's still a great resource for people looking into perennial plants for our area. For a list of our all our previous years' offerings, check out our LCF Master Plant List.

Also, don't forget to sign up for our newsletter so you can be sure to get a reminder about the plant sale. Please contact us with any questions or requests. Happy planting dreams!

Below is our Master Plant List for the nursery. We’ve compiled a list of all the plants we’ve offered for sale over the past 10 years.
